LEGACY
Massive Attack website
Launched to coincide with the launch of Massive Attack's fourth album 100th Window.
99 windows are closed and the 100th window is left open for you to go in...
Launched to coincide with the launch of Massive Attack's fourth album 100thWindow, the site was designed to have two faces, innocence and experience, a flat site and an immersive site.
One would communicate facts, the other would use the facts and put them in context. One way we would do this is by using the positional data from the tour stops and superimposing live earthquake data on a worldmap. How close can they be to disaster. Or using live stockmarket data to see how political climate influences the stockmarket.
The experience part of the site was always meant to be hidden away to some extent, sometimes surfacing, always lurking beneath the flat information, something which you would have to uncover.

Behind the scenes
To access the immersive experience, type "100thwindow" in the blinking command prompt in the bottom left corner or wait for the "flame-man" to descend from above while you are browsing and click on him.
Visualising and using external data streams, the site reflects the dynamic nature of the submission system that was created for it, using statistical-, weather-, earthquake- or financial data and presents it in a novel way, re-contextualising it and controlling part of the site.

It's a a system that is being influenced from inside (MA's submissions in the form of visuals, audio, video) and outside (news-images/pictures we pull through Google's image-search into the site based on keywords in texts, earthquake data, etc.).
The factor of unpredictability and surprise which in so many of our sites was predetermined by us was now not in our hands anymore.
