The LOST Experience
A global Alternate Reality Game to bridge the time between seasons 2 and 3 of the hit series LOST.
We wrote the script with the writers of LOST and producer Damon Lindelof.
ABC and the producers of LOST approached Channel 4 and Hi-ReS! to help them create something that would serve as a bridging narrative between seasons 2 and 3 in the US, and as promotion during the airing of season 2 in the UK (and Australia).
7 months and countless midnight conference calls later, we had finished our first extensive alternate reality game called "The Lost Experience", which essentially supplied fans with the background of the "Dharma Initiative", the mysterious project being carried out on the island in the main show.
The story revolves around the company behind the "Dharma Initiative" known as "The Hanso Foundation". A young woman named Rachel Blake is determined to find out about the whereabouts of Alvar Hanso and reveals the truth about the supposedly altruistic Hanso Foundation.
Her investigations were "The Lost Experience".
The LOST Experience case study film
The Lost Experience became a complex mystery solving experience, with hundreds of fan blogs around the globe reporting daily about clues and updating information.
We created fake sites and video content which we split into 60 one minute fragments: Each of these was given a unique code to unlock the individual video fragments on hansoexposed.com.
In order to make the code recognisable to fans, we created hieroglyphs which were hidden across the world in online and offline locations.
The Apollo chocolate bar which featured in LOST was manufactured specifically for the Experience. Each of these specially created bars had a URL moulded into it: whereisalvar.com
Finder of the bars would be able to upload images of themselves with their bars to the site.

The Lost Experience became a complex mystery solving experience beyond anything we could have imagined, with hundreds of blogs around the globe reporting daily about clues, updating information and calling out for specialists, so people with different skills sets in physics etc could unfold the clues.
